Heritage Open Days is a national celebration of England’s cultural and architectural heritage, allowing free admission to buildings, or parts of buildings, which are otherwise not open to the public or charge an entry fee. Here, in the Maldon District, the Heritage Open Days event, which is taking place over the weekend of 11 and 12 September, is linked to nationwide celebrations. Guided Tours of Moot Hall

Moot Hall, High Street , Maldon  
A guided tour of this historic grade 1 listed building formerly owned by the D’Arcy family. The centre of local government since 1576, it has a jail, courtroom and prisoners’ exercise yard. Other features include the brick spiral staircase and magnificent views from the bell tower

Maldon Regatta
Saturday 11th September 2010
The Hythe, Maldon  
The day's racing starts at West Mersea at 9am with events on The Hythe starting at 12 noon. There is a children's crabbing competition at 12.30 and stalls, music, food, a rubber duck race at 1030pm. Parade of Sail into Maldon at approx 2.30pm and prizegiving at 5.30pm. In the evening there are two live bands playing from 7-11pm.
