Your guide to the district of Maldon and its history Maldon East goods shed
Malfon East goods shed

This picture was taken in March 2007 and has been digitally altered to remove the large yellow signs advertising the trade of the occupier.

The shed was used for the storage of timber but was rapidly demolished in May 2008 in order to develop the site.

Another piece of Maldon's history has vanished.

According to the Maldon and Burnham Standard, the demolition of this historic landmark has resulted in a developer and the Maldon District Council being critised in court:

"Aquila Maldon Ltd has been fined near the maximum amount for failing to provide the six-week notice of demolition as required before bulldozing the landmark on the Causeway and was accused of "deliberately withholding information from the council" by magistrates."

The Council was critised for a series of failures which contributed in the permanent loss of the landmark.

There seems to be some confusion as to whether this building was the goods shed or the engine shed. This section of the OS map of 1897 clearly identifies it as the goods shed. Click the map to enlarge.
